Jun Gueco Cruz

Jun Gueco Cruz is a visual artist and healthcare provider whose work explores the invisible yet vital processes of life at the cellular level. Born in Angeles City, Philippines, Cruz merges his medical knowledge, spiritual insight, and Kapampangan roots to create biomorphic forms that celebrate the transformative power of biology. His art invites viewers to look beneath the surface of the human body, illuminating the quiet labor of cells as they grow, divide, and regenerate. These cellular movements—often unseen and unrecognized—become the foundation of Cruz’s visual language. Through vibrant textures and dynamic structures, he reveals life not as static, but as a continuous unfolding. Cruz’s journey began in the early 1990s with Tanatanaman, a solo exhibit that linked planting with the physiology of life. This theme of germination—of seeds breaking open to release new life—has evolved into a signature motif in his work. In his Imperishable Seed series, these forms represent the profound transformation happening within every planted seeds. His work has been exhibited internationally, including the Florence Biennale, Art Basel Miami, and the Tokyo Tower International Art Fair, among others. Recognized with numerous global awards, Cruz continues to push the boundaries between science and art. Through his biomorphic creations, Cruz offers a poetic vision of the body—one where biology and spirit are not separate but intertwined. His work encourages a deeper awareness of the life within us and the extraordinary beauty unfolding in every cell.
