My art is an expression of my soul, I create to express an emotion, being creative is part of my DNA. Each illustration, sculpture or painting I make is a challenge and at various stages of the process brings me joy and peace. Art is always with me and at times I feel compelled to be creative. My paintings usually begin with a black and white illustration, sometimes these drawings are inspired by an image that enters my mind, a photograph, a dream I have while asleep or a specific point in time. Using acrylic on canvas, my paintings have a bold fluid style paired with the subjects of the pieces, infused with pointillism, subtle texture and metallic accents that illuminate the surface to express moments captured in time. My work is almost biographical, it expresses the challenges, adversity and happiness of my ife experience. The symbolism I use is universally appealing, popular icons with a modern, abstract twist. Influenced by time, place and circumstance, I explore themes such as fighting for justice, love, survival, women’s rights, suppression, unrestricted freedom and ocean life. Influenced by the masters, Picasso, Monet, Dali, Turner. Viewing the Picasso and his Creative Collection at the MOMA in Brisbane, Guernica at the Reina Sophia Museum in Madrid and visiting the Picasso Museum in Barcelona were all artistic turning points for my creative self.
